SafarGB arranges the Pakistani side of Laila Peak expeditions from Skardu: the restricted-area trekking permit and paperwork, porters for the walk in from Hushe, base camp logistics, cooks and supply runs, and hotels and transport at both ends. Guiding and any high-altitude porter support are agreed in writing for each expedition, so every climber knows exactly what is and isn't included before paying anything. Laila Peak (about 6,100 m, usually given as 6,096 m) is climbed by its steep northwest face, in expeditions of 21–26 days from Islamabad.

FAQ

Questions, answered

How much does it cost to climb Laila Peak?

No operator has published a 2027 price yet. For 2026, Trango Adventure listed a base camp service at $2,200–2,290 per climber, with a mountain guide only as far as base camp, and full board at $6,000. Skardu Trekkers prices a private trip by group size, from $1,800 per person for groups of more than four to $4,600 for one climber. Peaks up to 6,500 m pay no royalty, but the Hushe valley treks need a permit: you pay a trekking fee of $150 per person in summer and hire a licensed guide. We quote each expedition individually.

How hard is Laila Peak?

It's a steep snow and ice climb, not a trekking peak. The normal route climbs the northwest face from a col on the west ridge: some 1,500 m at about 45°, steepening to 55° near the top. Climbers abseil or ski back down the same face, so you need to be confident with crampons and an ice axe on long, exposed slopes. Your guiding team sets the exact requirement.

How long does a Laila Peak expedition take?

Most run 21–26 days from Islamabad, 23 being the most common: a jeep ride of 7–8 hours from Skardu via Khaplu to Hushe, two days' walk to base camp and about ten days for acclimatisation and the climb. Operators run it from June to August, and ski parties often go in May.

How dangerous is Laila Peak?

Rockfall and the descent are the main risks, and both have killed. In July 2025 a German climber was hit by falling rock at about 5,700 m while abseiling, in a summer so hot that rockfall was constant. In June 2016 an Italian ski mountaineer fell about 400 m on the ski descent. Rockfall gets worse as the day warms, so early starts matter.

Which Laila Peak is this?

The one in the Hushe valley in Ghanche district, above the Gondogoro Glacier, which trekkers see at dawn from the Gondogoro La. Pakistan has other Laila Peaks, including one of 6,985 m in the Haramosh range near Gilgit, so check that a permit, quote or report means the Hushe mountain.
