Skardu & Hunza Cherry Blossom: The 2027 Timing Guide
Blossom sweeps Gilgit-Baltistan from late March to mid-April, climbing with altitude: Gilgit's valley floor opens the show in late March, Hunza's Karimabad terraces peak in early April, and Skardu's amphitheatres — Chunda above all — peak around the second week of April. Apricot leads, cherry and almond follow, and any single village holds peak petals for barely ten days. Hotels in Hunza now sell out blossom weeks; Skardu's blossom remains the connoisseur's uncrowded version.
The altitude clock
Blossom obeys elevation, which makes it plannable: roughly, every 300 m of altitude delays peak by 4–6 days. Gilgit (1,500 m) late March → Hunza's Aliabad/Karimabad (2,400 m) first week of April → Skardu bowl and Chunda (2,300–2,600 m) second week → Khaplu and upper villages carrying it toward mid-month. A well-routed week can therefore ride the wave through three peaks — which is exactly how our blossom departures are sequenced.
Year-to-year drift is real (a warm February advances everything a week), so we confirm village-level status in the final days and reshuffle itineraries to hit peak petals. That flexibility is the entire trick; fixed itineraries booked months out gamble on weather they can't see.

Hunza owns the famous frames — Altit village under Ultar, blossom against Rakaposhi — and now owns the crowds to match. Skardu's Chunda valley delivers an equal amphitheatre with a tenth of the tripods: forty terraces of apricot and cherry stacked above the Indus, the cold desert pale below. Khaplu's palace orchards give the heritage frame. Our advice order: Chunda for the amphitheatre, Altit for the classic, Khaplu for the quiet.
